Embassy Winter 2017 Connect GroupsĀ

Connect Groups are groups of 10-20 people who meet once every two weeks. Groups meet all around the city and do everything from fitness to DIY projects to book studies! These groups are a fantastic place to meet friends, learn, and try something new. It is a great way to connect in a personal way.

Take a look at our Connect Groups below and choose the one(s) that interest you! Once you submit the form, the leaders from your selected connect group(s) will contact you with more details.

If you have further questions please email connectgroups@the-embassy.org. We will have a leader follow up with you!

OneROOF

OneROOF is a centre for at-risk or homeless youth. The place provides a place for basic necessities, a home base, and meals for youth, as well as a shelter in the basement. Additionally, OneROOF seeks to provide education and essential life skills to youth so that they would hopefully get off the streets completely. We prepare a dinner (6-7), eat the dinner and spend time socializing with the youth (7-8), and organize/participate in a pre-planned activity with the youth (8-9), which is often just playing cards.

  • Day of the Week: Wednesdays (weekly)
  • Time: 6:00pm - 9:00pm
  • Location: OneROOF, 242 Queen Street, Kitchener, Ontario
  • Leaders: Shantelle Matos

Chasing the Wonder

The hope with this approach is that each member of the group is able to grow in confidence in their relationship with Jesus and to build deeper community with one another. Each member of the group will have some ownership over the connect (ie: a topic with a few scriptures will be given to a person randomly selected [name in a bucket style] 2 weeks in advance) so the person can reflect and journey through relationship with the Father and come to share from that. If that doesn't intrigue you enough, we will also play various games as well!

  • Day of the Week: Thursdays (bi-weekly)
  • Time: 6:30pm - 8:00pm
  • Location: WLU Arts Building
  • Leaders: Chike Onyeoguzoro, Neil and Alyssa Thomas

Airsoft Guys

An Airsoft connect where we will talk about gear, and strategy, plan/attend events and games,  upgrade guns and generally chill. You don't have to have the gear to join, as I ( Aaron ) and many of my friends already have gear that will loan out to new players or new people checking out the sport. We will discuss all things airsoft, as well as plan to play at least once a month. In order to purchase any guns according to Canadian law, you must be at least 18 years of age, however for those under 18, all you need is parental consent. Any location where we will be playing will require parental consent or a waiver to be signed that would be the only restriction to this group.

  • Day of the Week: Tuesday Evenings (bi-weekly)
  • Time: 7:00pm - 9:00pm
  • Location: 84 Westmeadow dr Kitchener Unit 11
  • Leader: Aaron Carter

Around the Table

A bi-weekly group that will be centred around cooking and/or baking meals. The goal is to connect people and build relationships through the love of food and food prep, and we would watch a movie or play games after. We want it to be very engaging for everyone involved, so we plan to have certain country themes (from around the world) planned for every meeting week and members will be able to select what dishes under the chosen theme we would make. And also have members contribute to the meal of the week in whatever way they can (if possible).

  • Day of the Week: Wednesday Nights(bi-weekly)
  • Time: 6:00pm - 9:00pm
  • Location: 634 Erb Street West, Waterloo
  • Leaders: Danny Okezie and Jericco Vera

Embassy Cinema

Embassy Cinema is a group dedicated to the gathering of fellow film lovers where we can talk about movies, watch movies and get to know one another better. I want to make this group happen in order to expose people to films that they wouldn't normally see, such as contemporary, classic and foreign films from directors such as Ingmar Bergman, Stanley Kubrick, Akira Kurosawa, Andrei Tarkovsky, Federico Fellini, Michael Haneke, Woody Allen, Wim Wenders, Robert Bresson, Jean-Luc Godard, Krzysztof Kieslowski and many more.
